Lake Maggiore

Lake Maggiore is a pre-alpine lake located between Italy and Switzerland. It’s the second biggest lake in Italy, after Lake Garda. His name “Major” comes from the fact that in ancient times it was thought, incorrectly, that it was the largest of the pre-alpine lakes.

The lake, as well as many places in the surrounding area of Milan, passed through the hands of several families like Della Torre, the Visconti, the ruling house of Habsburg since 1713 and in particular the Borromeo family, which most of all had a huge influence for many years on Lake Maggiore

Among the most famous tourist towns we can remark Arona, craft center commercial and tourist center, Stresa, along with the wonderful lake and the wonderful and unmissable Borromean Islands.
